Activities
Outdoor Ed
Through outdoor education, Horizons students and
teachers have the opportunity to develop their appreciation for
and understanding of ecology, life sciences, and geology, as well
as recognize and develop their individual and group roles by taking
risks and participating in team building. One week during the year
is devoted to outdoor education.
Winter Sports
It is our intent to instill in our students a life-long practice
of physical activity. To that end, Horizons sponsors a winter sports
program at Eldora Ski Mountain. Students may choose instruction
in alpine, cross-country skiing, skate skiing, or snowboarding.
After School Enrichment
At Horizons, we offer After-School Activities for our students,
with choices ranging from art and athletics to computer lab, in
a format that encourages choice and allows for small group activities.
This service is provided M-Th from 3:10-5:30, and on Fridays from
12:05-5:30 at a nominal fee. As with all activities at Horizons,
scholarships are available.
Adventure Week Programs
Adventure Week Programs are offered during weeks when the school
is closed for conferences and teacher planning. These weeks include
special activities that may include going to East Boulder Recreation
Center and the CU Ice Rink.

Middle School Athletics
Basketball and volleyball teams are offered to middle school students
after school dismisses. Games are played against other small area
schools. An emphasis is placed on allowing all students to play.
Middle school students may also choose to participate in the Bolder
Boulder Middle School Challenge. Training occurs during spring Arts
& Sciences sessions.
